The Kiva loan granted to Genie was a huge help for the convenience store. Most of the loan was used to buy inventory like toiletries, laundry soaps, food items like rice, canned goods, powdered milk, cocoa and powdered juices. Then she used 10% of the loan on electronic cellular phone load for different networks, which she will resell to customers. She hopes to some day further expand her business into the cellular phone load market.
Genie has an Internet connection in her house and her daughter, who works at a call center, was able to help her find her profile on Kiva.org. Both of them were floored and screamed in excitement when seeing the profile online (check out the video, the screams were right before filming). Genie thought her profile was “beautiful.” She is thankful for her Kiva loan.
She has no problems making her loan payments and no issues at her business. Genie often takes care of her granddaughter, which often gets in the way of her store. If she is taking her to school, she must close the store temporarily.
